Tewkesbury Historical Society AGM 2008

Minutes of the Annual General Meeting of the Society held on 24 April 2008 at the Tewkesbury Methodist Church Hall.

Present.

The President (John Dixon) together with a number of members and guests.

Apologies for absence.

Were received Nora Day, Janet Devereux, Jane Flude, Richard & Eileen Hart.

Minutes.

The minutes of the Annual General Meeting held on 26 April 2007 were reviewed and approved and signed as a correct record.

Proposed by Bill Rennison and seconded by Cliff Burd.

President’s Report.

The President gave his report on the past years activities of the Society using the Power Point Projector.

Commemoration of Ending of WWI.

Secretary’s Report.

Treasurer’s Report.

John, Acting Treasurer, reported the financial accounts for the year 1st April 2007 to 31st March 2008. The Accounts are attached.

Acceptance of accounts proposed by John Dixon and seconded by Cliff Burd

The Treasurer reported that the accounts had been audited and found to be correct by Mr. Cecil Hallett, former manager of a High Street Bank. Having stated that he was willing to be re-appointed, he was thereupon elected by the Society.

Election of Committee.

The following members having signified that they would be prepared to continue, were re-elected to form the Committee;-

John Dixon , Cliff Burd, Janet Martin, Ken Flude, Audrey Pound, David Willavoys, Sue Norman

Programme.

Thanks were given to Audrey Pound for arranging the speakers throughout the year with most of the programme for 2008/09 nearly completed.

Bob Woodard Research Award.

The President welcomed Mr. David Evans and Mr. John Loosley to the meeting and invited them to announce the winner of the award for the best article published in the 2007 Society Bulletin.

Mr. Evans praised the Bulletin and congratulated the people responsible for it; he thought the cover was excellent as were the photographs illustrating the articles. The award was made to Janet Devereux for her contribution entitled "A Land of Hope and Glory?". Unfortunately, Janet was not in attendance at the meeting as she was out of the country, John Dixon will present the Trophy and Medallion to her at the meeting on the 22 May.

Date of next AGM.

It was agreed to fix the date of 23 April 2009.

There being no other business, the meeting closed at 8.30 pm.
