December 2007 News

Christmas is approaching in Tewkesbury but the Town is still trying to recover from the consequences of that disastrous flood.

Of members who were flooded I can report the glad tidings that former treasurer Bill Rennison is now back living in his "new" home. Roger Butwell also reports good progress and hopes to be back to some semblance of normality by Christmas. Steve and Jenny Tandy, however, have no made such decisive progress but are seeing their lovely home being restored once again. Perhaps a silver lining is that they will expect to be entertained by their sons this Christmas.

The Society was also a "victim" but much less disastrously, when our stock of Bulletins, kindly housed by our printers, Fleet Graphics, our printer, was swamped. However, I am pleased to report that our insurers via the British Association of Local History did their job. Moreover, new equipment installed by Fleet Graphics has meant that we can digitally reproduce back numbers with enhanced quality and upon demand.

Our founder committee member Cliff Burd has had to have his hip replaced this autumn but we were delighted to welcome him and his smile back at our November meeting!

Bulletin 16 is now available and, thanks to Norah Day, I have been delighted to have tracked down the lovely young girl on the front of the Bulletin (click here for details). Although now elderly at 87 years of age, she is just as delightful and I passed a happy morning in her company. I also saw the shawl!

An Index is available now for all 16 Bulletins. It is on line via the website or can be purchased as a paper copy in the usual way for £3.50p.

I hope that you all have a Happy Christmas and that we all meet up again in the New Year, full of zest. I am afraid that family commitments mean that I shall miss the Indexing of the Tewkesbury Register on 23 January and the Social on the 24 January but am already thinking about our Evening of Research on 14 February which we hope to dedicate to the 90th Anniversary of the Ending of World War I in order to launch our research project of 2008.

The committee meets on 31 January 2008 at Pamington by kind invitation of June and Ken Flude.

John
