Just before the holiday season begins, it is perhaps a good time to bring you up to date with THS affairs since the AGM in May.
The good news is that, in 2006, for Bulletin 14, the Woodard Award winners are Derek and Cath Round for their article, Tewkesbury Pioneer in Transport which was the life of Samuel J Osborne. Warners Garages were built on his foundations. This is the second time that Derek has won this award in collaboration with another. Derek is an indefatigable researcher but, having left school as early as possible with not the best education, he needs help writing his articles. His patient wife, Cath, has been his collaborator this time.
As we advised you in the last Bulletin, the Committee Meeting would have some important issues to address, the minutes are available to read in a link in our 'About Us / Commitee' section.
To summarise the main issues:
Officer Elections: the Committee according to our Constitution elected Nigel Druce as Treasurer and June Flude as Secretary. However, to try to pare the workload of the President, the Committee Host will chair each public meeting and that different members will write the Members Signpost Bulletin.
Refreshments: a different member will be ask to sign up in advance of each meeting. Jan and Marion will ensure that materials will be available. No rota: no refreshments!
Bulletin - this is the most important issue. The problem is that the costs of the Bulletin have increased to such an extent that sales both to members and the public have been adversely affected. The Committee decided that there would be no publication of the Bulletin in March 2007 whilst we review the future of the Publication and whilst the Society rebuilds its finances. Please take part in our review by letting us know what you think by studying the Review and filling in either or both of the Surveys as Applicable to you.

Other more positive news concerns the Website. For some time, we have received several requests for children of GIs wanting information about their fathers. In order to help such people, it is better to put as much information as we have on to the web so they can search for themselves. We are fortunate to have been supplied with a great deal of information concerning US personnel serving at Ashchurch during the war from 622 OBAM Veterans Association to which recently has been added information sent to me by GI daughter Lesley Staite of Canada. We are deeply indebted to one of our members, Joan Smith, for painstakingly transcribing al this information. It had also been added to our Woodard Database. Please be patient if the files are rather large but we want the information to be as comprehensive as possible.
This website is called GI Gateway and, in addition to the lists I have also restored to the website a General History of Ashchurch Camp in World War II.
We hope that you will involve yourselves in these issues and communicate your thoughts and ideas to us.
John
