News Archive for July 2006

Just before the holiday season begins, it is perhaps a good time to bring you up to date with THS affairs since the AGM in May.

The good news is that, in 2006, for Bulletin 14, the Woodard Award winners are Derek and Cath Round for their article, Tewkesbury Pioneer in Transport which was the life of Samuel J Osborne. Warners Garages were built on his foundations. This is the second time that Derek has won this award in collaboration with another. Derek is an indefatigable researcher but, having left school as early as possible with not the best education, he needs help writing his articles. His patient wife, Cath, has been his collaborator this time.

As we advised you in the last Bulletin, the Committee Meeting would have some important issues to address, the minutes are available to read in a link in our 'About Us / Commitee' section.

Other more positive news concerns the Website. For some time, we have received several requests for children of GIs wanting information about their fathers. In order to help such people, it is better to put as much information as we have on to the web so they can search for themselves. We are fortunate to have been supplied with a great deal of information concerning US personnel serving at Ashchurch during the war from 622 OBAM Veterans Association to which recently has been added information sent to me by GI daughter Lesley Staite of Canada. We are deeply indebted to one of our members, Joan Smith, for painstakingly transcribing al this information. It had also been added to our Woodard Database. Please be patient if the files are rather large but we want the information to be as comprehensive as possible.

This website is called GI Gateway and, in addition to the lists I have also restored to the website a General History of Ashchurch Camp in World War II.

We hope that you will involve yourselves in these issues and communicate your thoughts and ideas to us.

John
