40 Minutes Power-Point AGM
The A.G.M. duly took place on 26 April. We will post the draft minutes as soon as they are available but this is just a brief interim summary to keep you informed.
The President congratulated Richard Sermon on winning the County Jerrard Award in 2006
The President thanked:
the committee members and made a presentation to June Flude, our retiring secretary
David Willavoys for organising the monthly Tewkesbury Register indexing and Gordon Baker for his loyal assistance. Having received good news from Wendy Snarey in Australia, we look forward to gaining her expert assistance after their return on 14th May. Most of the bound volumes have now been removed to the Gloucestershire Archives and the cost of the removal was shared by the Society, The Archives and the Town Council.
With gifts all those non-committee members whose work is vital to the functioning of the society. Their names can be found on http://www.ths.freeuk.com/aboutus/active_members.htm .
Audrey Pound for her sterling work as programme secretary
Derek Benson for invigorating the website so efficiently and for introducing new ideas such as paying via Paypal and obtaining sponsorship from Amazon.com
Publications:
Bulletins:
the President confirmed that there was a surplus of unsold bulletins and we would recommend to the committee that a sale take place
a Bulletin would be published on 1 September 2007 which would be digitally produced, 44 pages of text and be printed in saleable amounts.
Certain publications (Bulletins 1-4, Harry Workman 1 and Doddo) are now out of print but will be reproduced by excellent service at the Stationery Centre when ordered.
The new venture – History Briefing Documents were selling well at no cost to the Society.
An experiment is being made with producing for sale a Power-Point presentation concerning the Hop Pole on disk.
Acting Treasurer:
there was a credit balance of Ł1,688.93 compared with Ł174.46p in 2005-6, bearing in mind that no bulletin has been published in the past financial year.
There was a theoretic asset balance of Ł7,147.43p – however, we shall never sell all the surplus bulletins at cost price
The Society’s audio recorder is valued by the secretary for recording minutes but we are delighted that Bill Treen is at present using it to conduct an interview with an ageing Tewkesbury resident.
Also the Power Point Projector is a most valued asset being used for outreach to clubs such as Clee House but also has garnered donations to replace bulbs when use for professional lectures – fortunately after the very first use the projector has proved most reliable.
We now keep a record of Attendance and Income from Meetings. This season the attendance varied from 55 to 28 and the net income from Ł51.84p to -Ł3.86. However, we have also sold Ł102.25p’s worth of publications at meetings since September.
We had a membership of 79 this year
The Treasurer will recommend to the Committee that membership subscriptions and entrance fees will remain the same, although Expatriate membership needs examining.
The accounts were audited by Mr. Hallett, A.C.I.B., former bank manager with the Midland Bank in Tewkesbury and he was reappointed by acclamation
Elections to the Committee: the reluctance for new members to come forward has been the source of recent anxiety. willing to stand again: we are grateful that the following members are willing to continue: Ken Flude, David Willavoys, Audrey Pound, Cliff Burd, John Dixon. We are exceedingly grateful for two new members: Janet Martin & Sue Norman. Officers are elected by the Committee which meets on 9 Mary 2007.
Woodard Award: we were honoured by the presence of our two independent adjudicators David Evans and John Loosley. They commended Cliff Burd for his articles on Tewkesbury’s Stockingers. They felt that the rules precluded the award for a two part article, an issue which the committee will have to address. The award went to John Dixon for his article "Tewkesbury’s Obsession with Nelson?"
There was no other business and the next A.G.M. was announced for 24 April 2008.
John
