Janet and Derek (THS Secretary and THS Membership Secretary) attended a Chartist Convention held in Newport, South Wales on 31st October 2009 to commemorate the 170th anniversary of the Chartist Uprising in Newport. We were made very welcome and very much enjoyed talks by Prof. Chris Williams, speaking about the opponents of Chartism, and Dr. Mike Sanders on the poetry and song of the Chartist movement. A walk around the town and a visit to the museum (where a permanent Chartist exhibit will open in the new year) was led by Les James of the University of Wales. Musical entertainment of a very radical nature was provided by the Côr Cochion Caerdydd (Cardiff Reds Chior) http://www.corcochion.org.uk/
