Harry was born in Tewkesbury in 1917 and has devoted much of his life to living and working in our historic town. After attending Barton Road School, he joined the International Stores but his career changed in 1938 when he took on a milk round. Subsequently he built up Cotteswold Dairies, leaving it a major local service when he retired in 1988. In addition he served the community by being elected to the Town Council from 1950 to 1974 and achieved the distinction of being elected mayor from 1959-1961.
Of great importance to Harry, and his wife Dorothy, were their lives as Christians. Since his retirement, Harry has been much in demand speaking to local groups about his memories of life in the town. Harry has now bowed to the pressure of many people asking him to provide a permanent record of a fascinating period in the history of the Market Town when everybody seemed to have a nickname - such as “Skylark, Teddy Walers & Dabfoot”!

Harry is now embarking on recording his memories of his business and political life since 1938 when Tewkesbury changed into a modern industrial town. Any further information inspired by this book will be welcomed by the author or the Editor, John Dixon.
