Seeking
information on Joseph HARTLAND between the years 1801 and 1813. Joseph
was christened in Bosbury on 1 October 1780.
Joseph
married Hannah FARMER on 5 DEC 1799 at Bosbury, daughter Jane born 1801.
Herefordshire Removal Order placed upon Joseph & Hannah HARTLAND in
1801 from Bosbury to Castle Froom which was respited. Have
found Joseph & Hannah under the surname ARKELL in Bredon in 1813 for
the christening of John , then James 1815, Mary Ann 1817, Samuel 1819,
Thomas 1821, George 1823, Joseph 1826, & Sarah 1829. Joseph Snr. died
in 1830 and is buried at Bredon, Worcestershire. All
Bredon entries under the name of ARKELL. Why?
What happened between 1801 and 1813 is the question. Joseph
Jnr. 1826 emigrated to Australia in 1851 under the surname ARKELL, but his
signature is clearly ‘Joseph Hartland’, so when he married in Sydney
he reverted to the HARTLAND name, and I descend from that union. I have
submitted my HARTLAND history in book form to the Tewkesbury Library & any-one
is welcome to study it. Any suggestions gratefully received. |

Rice Family: I (Pam) was also in touch with someone called Alan Fincher, but lost his address. My grandfather was a Fincher and lived at Bredon until he married, with his mother and stepfather Edward William Upstone. If you know anyone researching either of these families I would love to get in touch. I have done loads of research on the Flinchers, but none on the Upstones. |
